President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York (USA).
He noted that the UN Secretary-General has a special connection with Kyrgyzstan, as he has visited the country many times, and not only as the Secretary-General of the organization.
According to António Guterres, the Kyrgyz Republic is doing good work on the issues of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, noting the readiness to continue joint work in this direction. He also emphasized that the UN is ready to provide the necessary support to Kyrgyzstan.
Sadyr Japarov noted that strengthening regional and international cooperation is a key element of the vision of the future of the Kyrgyz Republic. He emphasized that in the new geopolitical conditions, the role and importance of Central Asia are increasing many times over. Therefore, strengthening cooperation with the countries of the region is the highest priority for Kyrgyzstan.
According to the president, signing an agreement on the state border with Uzbekistan and negotiations with Tajikistan are important steps in resolving territorial disputes and developing peaceful cooperation.
In addition, the project to build a railroad with Uzbekistan and China is of great importance for the development of infrastructure and transportation links in the region.
Sadyr Japarov especially noted that Kyrgyzstan is actively working to implement the Sustainable Development Goals until 2030. The republic holds high positions in international rankings on sustainable development, but recognizes that the work is not yet complete. The Kyrgyz Republic strives to continue achieving these goals, relying on international law, national interests and constructive dialogue.
The head of state outlined Kyrgyzstan’s active work on strengthening cooperation in the field of climate change, environmental protection and biodiversity. And he told that the country supports initiatives to reduce the debt burden of developing countries, and calls on the international community to exchange foreign debt for green initiatives.
