Ombudsperson of the Kyrgyz Republic Jamilya Jamanbayeva and the Ambassador of the EU Delegation Marilyn Josefson held a meeting. Press service of the Institute of Ombudsman reported.
The parties discussed the situation of ensuring human rights and freedoms in Kyrgyzstan and exchanged views on the promotion of fundamental values in the field of human rights, democracy, the rule of law and civil society in Kyrgyzstan.
Jamilya Jamanbayeva noted the EU’s contribution to strengthening democratic values and high standards of human rights and freedoms in Kyrgyzstan.
«The EU Delegation always supports the Institute of Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic on ensuring human rights and freedoms in Kyrgyzstan, a lot of good projects have been implemented that contributed to the development of the institution as a whole, respectively, these efforts have had a positive impact on the situation of human rights and freedoms in the country,» she said.
Jamilya Jamanbaeva stressed that the Ombudsman’s Institute is taking all measures to improve the situation with human rights in the country.
Ambassador Marilyn Josefson expressed confidence that the EU will provide the necessary support to the Ombudsman’s Institute.
«The EU highly values the work of the Ombudsperson’s Office in Kyrgyzstan and is ready to continue assisting to strengthen its role and independence, and in supporting reform measures that are aligned with the Paris principles and allow Kyrgyzstan to seek A-status» the Ambassador of the EU Delegation to Kyrgyzstan said.
Ombudsman’s Institute plans to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the right to freedom of speech, adopting the best practices of European countries, in particular, studying the practice of the Strasbourg Court in cases related to freedom of speech.
