Situation with Wagner: Russia declares anti-terrorist operation regime in Moscow

An anti-terrorist operation regime has been declared on the territory of Moscow and Moscow Oblast in order to prevent possible terrorist attacks. The National Anti-Terrorism Committee of Russia reported.

Vladimir Putin will address the people in the near future, the Spokesman for the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said.

The regime of the anti-terrorist operation has also been declared in Voronezh Oblast.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation appealed the Wagner PMC this morning.

«We appeal to the fighters of the assault squads of Wagner PMC. You were deceived into Prigozhin’s criminal adventure and participation in an armed rebellion. Many of your comrades from several squads have already realized their mistake and asked for help in ensuring the ability to safely return to their places of permanent deployment. Such assistance from our side has already been provided to all the fighters and commanders who applied. We ask you to be prudent and get in touch with representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense or law enforcement agencies as soon as possible. We guarantee everyone’s safety,» the appeal reads.

On June 23, Yevgeny Prigozhin, founder of Wagner Private Military Company, accused the Defense Ministry of hitting his company’s positions and said that 25,000 people were going to «deal with it.» He said this morning that Wagner PMC controls the military facilities of the city.

The Ministry of Defense called Prigozhin’s messages an «information provocation» and rejected accusations of strikes on PMC positions.

The FSB opened a criminal case against Yevgeny Prigozhin for organizing an armed rebellion. He faces from 12 to 20 years in prison.

Video messages to Wagner PMC were recorded by General Surovikin and Lieutenant General Alekseev. Surovikin asked to stop and not «play into the hands of the enemy in this difficult time for the country,» and Alekseev called Prigozhin’s actions «a stab in the back of the country and the president.» Later, Prigozhin said that his fighters «crossed state borders in all places» and «are entering Rostov.»

Restrictions are being introduced in a number of Russian regions — in particular, mass events have been canceled in Lipetsk and Voronezh Oblasts, as well as in Rostov-on-Don. The M-4 highway on the border of Lipetsk and Voronezh Oblasts is blocked due to the movement of military equipment, traffic jams have formed there.
