Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida will instruct the country’s Foreign Affairs Ministry to work on the launch of the format of summit meetings with the leaders of Central Asian countries starting next year. Kyodo news agency reported.
He had a meeting with a group of deputies of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, who are working on strengthening ties with the countries of Central Asia. Its head, ex-premier Taro Aso, conveyed to Fumio Kishida proposals for strengthening ties with these states.
«This is an important geopolitical region, rich in natural resources, it is of great importance for Japan,» the document says.
The recommendations include, in particular, a proposal to hold regular high-level meetings between Japan and the countries of Central Asia starting next year. As noted, following the meeting, the head of government said that he intended to give a corresponding instruction to the country’s Foreign Ministry.
Japan has recently been paying a lot of attention to the development of relations with the countries of Central Asia. In early December 2022, Tokyo also hosted the Central Asia Investment Forum 2022 with the participation of representatives of authorities and business of the region.
