Construction of China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway project is being implemented as part of the creation of the transport and infrastructure framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Elena Sherysheva, Deputy Director of the Department of Transport and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) said.
«This route was recently discussed at China — Central Asia summit, a corresponding document was signed aimed at implementation of the project,» she said.
According to Elena Sherysheva, with the further development of the transport route, it will be possible to organize transportation from China to Europe and Turkey through Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, as well as in the opposite direction. She added that other projects implemented in the EAEU member countries are meant to contribute to this task.
«For example, in accordance with the national plans and strategies for infrastructure development in Belarus, it is planned to put into operation after repair and reconstruct 664.39 kilometers of roads by 2025, as well as implement a project to increase the share of electrified railways to 25 percent,» the EEC representative said.
She recalled that at the meeting of the Eurasian Economic Forum held in Moscow at the end of May, the leaders of the EAEU states «stated that the issues of the coordinated creation of the transport and infrastructure framework of the union, the logistics system, the seamlessness of transportation, and the optimization of control procedures should take the most important place on the Eurasian agenda.»
