«At the stage of discussing the issue of creation of a food fund of the EAEU, various options for storage of goods were considered,» Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Policy of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Aina Kusainova told.
According to her, first of all, these are long-term storage goods — grains and oilseeds. In addition, it can also be products of deep processing, such as butter and milk powder, for Belarus.
«This issue is under discussion, but taking into account the experience in the formation of food funds, then the ideology of its creation will change,» she explained.
In addition, Aina Kusainova noted that consultations are constantly held at the EEC site to find optimal solutions for integration and solving problems, including those related to food security.
«Last year, a certain package of proposals for ensuring food security and provision with food was considered at the site. The idea of creating a Eurasian food aid fund was also voiced. But the experts had questions about the sources of funding, mechanisms for the formation of the fund, transportation, and pricing. And most importantly, there was a question regarding the lack of legal norms in EAEU for the formation of such an institution. But this was an initiative at the level of experts, so an agreement was reached on a more detailed study of world experience, including the EAEU countries — Russia and Kazakhstan,» Aina Kusainova told.
She also noted that in the near future the EEC will hold consultations with representatives of the parties. After them, mechanisms for the formation of the food fund of the EAEU will be created.
