Ban on use of plastic bags in Issyk-Kul region to be introduced in stages

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan will implement a phased transition from the use of plastic products to environmentally friendly paper products. The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Bakyt Torobaev said.

«As part of the implementation of the presidential decree, a draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers and other regulatory legal acts are being prepared, a period of phased restrictive measures on the use of polyethylene products will be determined from the moment they enter into force,» he said.

Earlier, Sadyr Japarov signed the decree on urgent measures to preserve the ecology of Issyk-Kul lake. The relevant committee of the Parliament approved in the second reading the draft law on limiting the circulation of plastic film bags in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Some time later, at a meeting of the Committee on Budget, Economic and Fiscal Policy, deputy Dastan Bekeshev drew the attention of officials to the fact that the decree signed by the president was not being implemented.
