Official visit of the President of the European Council Charles Michel to Kyrgyzstan has ended. Press service of the President reported.
During his visit, Charles Michel took part in the second meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the President of the European Council.
«The parties discussed topical issues of enhancing bilateral cooperation, exchanged views on a wide range of issues on the global agenda, including regional cooperation,» the statement says.
Following the talks, Sadyr Japarov and Charles Michel adopted a joint statement for the press.
In particular, the presidents reaffirmed their firm commitment to further deepening bilateral large scale cooperation based on the principles of democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law, economic cooperation and sustainable development goals.
«The Presidents stressed the need to continue efforts to further strengthen and develop bilateral cooperation, including trade, economic and investment ones. The need for close cooperation to find and use business opportunities, green growth, high labor and environmental standards was especially noted. The parties also discussed the importance of further development of business mobility and tourism, as well as expanding contacts between citizens,» the press service noted.
Charles Michel took note of the willingness of the Kyrgyz side to initiate consultations with the European Union on facilitating the visa regime for the Kyrgyzstanis.
«Kyrgyzstan reiterated its firm commitment to the chosen course of democratic development. It is noted that the country’s progress in the field of democracy and human rights, among other things, allowed it to become the first country in the region to receive EU trade preferences under the GSP+ program,» the press service of the head of state informed.
In addition, it is reported that the President noted the importance of strengthening the regional dialogue in Central Asia, which is the key to prosperity and further sustainable development and emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts only by diplomatic means without the use of force and reaffirmed the belief in peaceful coexistence and negotiations based on democracy and the rule of law.
