Deputies of Parliament reject amendments to law on fakes

Deputy Shailoobek Atazov proposed to reject amendments to the law of ex-deputy Gulshat Asylbaeva «On protection from inaccurate (false) information» at a meeting of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan.

He called the bill an initiative of foreign agents.

«The honor and dignity of an ordinary person should not be offended. Let’s protect human rights. Why does false information have to hang on the website for three days? Some people suffer a stroke during these three days,» the deputy said.

«We agreed to keep the norm according to which false information must be deleted within 24 hours,» his colleague Dastan Bekeshev replied.

Shailoobek Atazov did not believe him. According to the deputy, the initiators agree to everything just to adopt the document in the first reading.

«There is no need to introduce the law on foreign agents into the Kyrgyz society. You are a disgrace to everyone. Which website that spreads lies has been prosecuted? Let’s suffocate this bill. It is necessary to reject it and develop another one, with the responsibility of bloggers. Our colleague Dastan Bekeshev calls for more cultured work. We do not need cultural traitors of the people,» he said.

Deputies Shaiyrbek Tashiev, Aibek Matkerimov and Meikinbek Abdaliev supported him.

As a result of voting, the draft law did not pass the first reading. Only seven deputies voted for, 56 voted against.

Seven deputies of Parliament — Zhanar Akaev, Adakhan Madumarov, Elmurza Satybaldiev, Gulya Kozhokulova, Dastan Bekeshev, Seyid Atambaev and Chingiz Aidarbekov — initiate amendments to the Law of ex-deputy Gulshat Asylbaeva «On protection from inaccurate (false) information». They propose to give the media outlet three days to consider the complaint received by the Ministry of Culture and consider it with the invitation of representatives of the media.

The discriminatory document was adopted by the sixth convocation after a meeting with the president in violation of all procedures of the regulations. Representatives of the media community and experts have repeatedly stated that the law is directed against independent media. The blocking of Azattyk, Respublica websites and the partial blocking of 24.kg news agency are the proof of this.

Sadyr Japarov signed the law «On protection against inaccurate (false) information», initiated by MP Gulshat Asylbaeva, on August 23, 2021.
