MP urges not to ratify agreement on school construction with Russia

MP Aibek Osmonov proposed not to ratify the agreement with Russia on the construction of schools in Kyrgyzstan at a meeting of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security and Migration.

He asked the Deputy Minister of Education Toktobubu Ashymbaeva according to what standards the students of these educational institutions would be taught. The official replied that the educational program would be drawn up on the basis of the standards of the Russian Federation and the Kyrgyz Republic.

Aibek Osmonov urged his colleagues to protect the national interests of the country. «Construction of schools is good. But if education is in Russian and based on Russian educational standards, this is contrary to our national values. Let’s vote against,» he said.

The committee supported the agreement in three readings.

Russia will build nine schools in all regions of the republic. Their directors will be citizens of the Russian Federation, candidates for the position will be chosen in agreement with the Kyrgyz side. The teaching staff will also be foreign teachers.

About 455 million rubles will be spent on the construction of the educational institutions designed for 1,200 students.
