The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is not developing specific plans for settlement of the situation on the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, but if the parties request assistance, the organization will consider the appropriate possibility. CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov reported.
Valery Revenko, Chief of the Department of International Military Cooperation, Assistant Minister of Defense for International Military Cooperation of Belarus, wrote on Twitter that the CSTO would propose measures to relieve tension on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The CSTO Secretariat paid attention to this information that appeared in the media.
«The border problem between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan really exists. It has been repeatedly discussed at sessions of the supreme body — the Collective Security Council, meetings of other statutory bodies of the organization,» said Vladimir Zainetdinov.
According to him, «specific plans for settlement of this problem by the military departments of the CSTO member states are not developed.»
He added that «work on this issue between Dushanbe and Bishkek continues through bilateral channels. At the same time, the leaders of both states confirm that there is no alternative to the political and diplomatic solution.
«If the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan apply to use the CSTO potential, it will be considered in accordance with the current procedures,» Vladimir Zainetdinov explained.
Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 206 victims, 63 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
