Earthquake in Turkey: MFA evacuates 22 Kyrgyzstanis from disaster zone

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and foreign agencies of the Kyrgyz Republic evacuated 22 Kyrgyzstanis from the earthquake zone in Turkey. Press service of the Foreign Affairs Ministry reported.

Citizens of Kyrgyzstan were taken by a special flight of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan to Astana. The Kyrgyzstanis were met there by employees of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Hot meals were organized at the Astana airport for the evacuated compatriots with the participation of the Kyrgyz diaspora.

The issue of their transportation to the Kyrgyz Republic by land transport has been worked out. An air flight to Bishkek was organized for a citizen with a baby.

Two earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 and 7.5 hit southern Turkey on February 6 near Gaziantep city, where more than a million people live. Dozens of aftershocks were registered in Syria, Georgia and other countries.

The Turkish Embassy in Kyrgyzstan announced collection of humanitarian aid. A single deposit account has been opened in Kyrgyzstan to raise funds to help the victims.

According to the latest data, the number of victims in Turkey and Syria exceeded 11,000 people, the number of injured — more than 49,000.
