Turkmenistan resumes gas exports to Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan has again started importing gas from Turkmenistan since January 21, but so far the volumes are lower than before the onset of cold weather. Press service of Uztransgaz company informed Gazeta.uz.

Turkmenistan, for technical reasons caused by frost, has suspended gas supplies to Uzbekistan since January 12. According to information received from various sources, the reason for the cessation of supply of the fuel is the formation of hydrate in the infield communications of Galkynysh gas field. This happens in severe frosts and is a force majeure case, experts explained.

Deliveries were gradually resumed from January 21. According to Uztransgaz, Turkmenistan resumed gas supply from 4.8 million cubic meters per day, and to date it has increased to 12.6 million cubic meters.

«The daily volume of deliveries will gradually increase to 16 million cubic meters. This is the volume that was supplied before the cold snap,» the company noted.

Kyrgyzstan has an agreement with Turkmenistan on the supply of electricity. At the same time, Uzbekistan is the transit party. Uzbekistan processes Turkmen gas into electricity and transfers it to the Kyrgyz Republic. However, due to the difficult situation with electricity generation in the republic itself, there were no imports. Deliveries are expected this year.
