Mass arrests: 12 articles of Universal Declaration of Human Rights violated

At least 12 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and six articles of the Constitution were violated in the case against activists and politicians who were arrested on suspicion of attempt to seize power by force. Human rights activist, Chairman of the Democratic Movement of Kyrgyzstan Tursunbek Akun announced at a press conference at 24.kg news agency.

In particular, the human rights activist focused on three articles of the document:

– Article 3 »Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person”;

– Article 5 »No one shall be subjected to torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment”;

- Article 5 "No one may be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile."     

Tursunbek Akun noted that Kyrgyzstan must strictly comply with the obligations taken to international organizations.

»According to the Constitution, everyone has the right to freedom of thought and opinion. Everyone has the right to freedom of expression, freedom of speech and the press. The arrested bloggers, politicians, activists expressed their position, they have their own point of view on Kempir-Abad, they believe that the reservoir should not have been given to Uzbekistan. The authorities have a different opinion,” the human rights activist said.

At least 17 defendants in the criminal case on attempt to seize power by force, kept in the Bishkek remand center 1, went on a hunger strike. The condition of ex-deputy of the Parliament Orozaiym Narmatova and activist Perizat Suranova has deteriorated sharply.

The arrested placed all responsibility for the consequences of the hunger strike personally on the president of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Kamchibek Tashiev, Minister of Internal Affairs Ulan Niyazbekov, Prosecutor General Kurmankul Zulushev and the investigators, prosecutors and judges.
