One-man protest against Putin: Activist Ondurush Toktonasyrov fined

Activist Ondurush Toktonasyrov was fined 3,000 soms for violating the procedure of holding peaceful assemblies. He told 24.kg news agency, commenting on his detention.

According to him, he came to the building of the Russian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan on Friday at 3.50 p.m. to protest against the visit of the Russian President Vladimir Putin to the country.

«But at the intersection of Kievskaya Street and Mir Avenue, I was stopped by men in civilian clothes. They said they were police officers. Then they took me to the Department of Internal Affairs of Pervomaisky district. They took away my banner and personal belongings. They took away my cell phone and deleted the photos of those people who stopped me,» Ondurush Toktonasyrov told.

He noted that the mobile phone was returned to him only after the lawyer arrived at the police department. The activist was released at about 11 p.m.

Ondurush Toktonasyrov added that a protocol was drawn up against him under Article 139 «Violation of the procedure of holding peaceful assemblies» of the Code of Offenses and he was fined 3,000 soms. The activist intends to appeal the monetary penalty.

It should be noted that a ban on holding rallies was imposed in Bishkek until December 31, 2022. The decision was made by the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek.
