Media campaign “Think... Be vigilant!” starts in Kyrgyzstan

Media campaign «Think... Be vigilant!» starts in Kyrgyzstan. Its goal is to counter online radicalization and warn the general population in the country about the existing threats in cyberspace.

«The problem of the dissemination of ideas of violent extremism on the Internet has long been a concern for many states and international organizations. A number of studies show that the problem of radicalization is so multifaceted that it is impossible to identify even a conditional psychological portrait of people at risk. The victims of online extremist recruitment can be people of different ages, education, social and marital status. In other words, no one is impervious to the risk of becoming a victim of online recruitment of extremists,» expert Ilkhom Umarakhunov said at the presentation of the campaign in Bishkek.

As part of the Global Media Center project, the public association Interfeight Conceal and the Religious Situation Research Center, in cooperation with the British organization REOC Communications and the International Contact Group, developed the media campaign «Think... Be vigilant!»

The media campaign consists of short testimonials from people whose families and friends have been victims of online recruitment by extremist groups, as well as interviews with experts in the field of countering violent extremism and terrorism.

Experts urge citizens to be vigilant, critically perceive information on social media and, in case of suspicions and problems, seek advice and assistance from the relevant government agencies.
