Bishkek will host the annual Bir Duino international documentary film festival on human rights. It will be devoted to the topic «Climate and crises: situation with the fundamental rights of citizens.»
According to the organizers, the competition program includes 22 documentaries from Ukraine, the Czech Republic, France, Slovakia, Germany, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
The authors raise important and sensitive topics that concern modern humanity. The directors viewed them through the prism of climate change and the impact of crises: from large-scale wars to the fight against coronavirus, from gender inequality and discrimination to access to a clean environment and health, as well as fundamental human rights to decent working and living conditions.
The coordinator of the film festival, Lira Asylbek, noted that the key topic is human rights during crises and disasters.
«It is in such a testing period that it is important to find alternative strategies to promote the Sustainable Development Goals, this is possible only if human rights and freedoms are respected and citizens are equally involved in the decision-making process at all levels of government,» she said.
Famous jazz musician Vikram Ruzakhunov added that the person wants to be heard. Heroes of the documentaries emphasize that the development of civilization must proceed without damage and aggression.
«The leitmotif of each film is the idea that humanity should preserve a favorable environment for the life of all living things, through wise and universal laws, and resource management should become fair and understandable,» he said.
Film screenings will take place at Broadway Cinema from November 14 to November 18.
