Mass arrests: Wife of Ali Shabdan asks president to take case under control

The wife of arrested activist Ali Shabdan, Nuraim Sydygalieva, cannot understand why her husband was detained and asks the President Sadyr Japarov to take the case under his personal control. She announced this at a press conference at 24.kg news agency.

According to her, Ali Shabdan is engaged in farming and also works as a finishing works master. He is the only breadwinner in the family.

«Ali is an ordinary citizen, leads a socially active life, law-abiding. To find out what he is, just open his blogs on social media. We have a little daughter. I can’t understand why he was detained. The court did not provide a single piece of evidence. He is charged with serious crimes. The committee, where he was a member, was created to protect the Kyrgyz land. But why the desire to preserve our land, the resources of our country is a serious crime?» Nuraim Sydygalieva asked.

She noted that when choosing a preventive measure, the court did not take into account that he was the only breadwinner in the family.

«Why can’t he be released under house arrest? The judge didn’t even want to look at his daughter’s birth certificate. There are elderly women among those arrested, there are people who are not related to the case. There is absolute lawlessness. The investigator openly threatened my husband with murder. If they do this in front of people, what happens behind closed doors? I’m afraid for my husband and everyone else who tells the truth,» the activist’s wife said.

She asked the head of state to take the case under his personal control.

The Committee for protection of Kempir-Abad reservoir was created on October 22. It includes activists, politicians and MPs. On the same day, in an interview with Kabar news agency, President Sadyr Japarov said: the authorities have information who was behind the rallies and marches on Kempir-Abad issue.

Mass searches began on October 23; more than 20 people were detained and placed in remand centers of Bishkek and Chui region.
