Case against Kamil Ruziev: Human rights activist appeals to Supreme Court

Attorneys of the human rights activist Kamil Ruziev appealed to the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan. They reported to 24.kg news agency.

According to Chinara Dzhakupbekova, they intend to appeal the verdict of the Issyk-Kul Regional Court, according to which the human rights activist was found guilty of forgery and sentenced to a fine of 80,000 soms.

Attorneys call the decision unlawful and intends to get it annulled. They demand to fully acquit Kamil Ruziev due to the lack of corpus delicti.

Acquittal by the Karakol City Court was cancelled.

Employees of the State Committee for National Security detained the human rights activist on May 30, 2020 in Karakol. The court placed him under house arrest. Kamil Ruziev was accused of using a fake medical certificate. According to investigators, the human rights activist allegedly did this in order to extend the deadline for appealing against the decision of the Karakol City Court in one of the cases on which he worked. However, in 2021, the examination confirmed that the certificate was real.
