Residents of Uzgen hold rally against transfer of Kempir-Abad reservoir

Residents of Uzgen held a rally against transfer of Kempir-Abad reservoir.

It is known that about 60 people gathered near the district administration.

One of the protesters told that everyone who was not indifferent to the issue of transfer of the reservoir has gathered near the district administration building.

«The issue of Kempir-Abad is being considered in Bishkek. We hope that this issue will be resolved in favor of the people. We want to tell all the deputies that your mandate has been given for five years, and Kempir-Abad will always be there,» the man said.

Another participant of the rally said that the land, on which Kempir-Abad is located, is Kyrgyz and belongs to the people.

«Kempir-Abad must remain ours. We gathered in a hurry. The deputies are now being pressured, we saw it live. If the ratification still happens, we are ready to take another step,» the protester said.

Residents of Uzgen and some deputies oppose the protocol signed in Tashkent on several sections of the border, including Kempir-Abad reservoir. Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev had previously met with local residents and promised to revise the agreement with Uzbekistan.

A meeting with President Sadyr Japarov was held in Uzgen district on October 4. Local residents held a rally, opposing the transfer of Kempir-Abad reservoir to Uzbekistan.

At a meeting of the parliamentary committee, the head of the State Committee for National Security, Kamchybek Tashiev, said that the reservoir would be managed jointly.
