The Government of Armenia has appealed to Russia, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the UN Security Council in connection with the aggravation of the armed conflict on the border with Azerbaijan. TASS reports, citing the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of the country.
The Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan held an emergency meeting of the Armenian Security Council related to the aggravation on the border with Azerbaijan. It was decided to turn to Russia for help to activate the provisions of the agreement on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance in connection with the aggravation of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
Participants of the meeting also discussed further steps aimed at countering the actions of Azerbaijan that began at midnight against the sovereign territory of Armenia.
Earlier, the Armenian Defense Ministry announced that at 00.05 on September 13, units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened intense fire in the direction of the cities of Goris, Sotk and Jermuk using artillery, large-caliber and light small arms.
Fighting on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan began on September 13 at 00.05 local time. Baku accused Yerevan of provocations. After that, the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan called the Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as the French President Emmanuel Macron and the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
