Activist Yrys Zhekshenaliev placed in Bishkek remand center 1

The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek considered a measure of restraint against the administrator of Polit Uznik (Political Prisoner) social media page, Yrys Zhekshenaliev.

The activist was charged under the article «Mass riots» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. He is charged with calls for active disobedience to the legitimate demands of government officials and riots.

The investigators asked to take Yrys Zhekshenaliev into custody, his lawyers demanded to release him.

The activist himself said that his detention was connected with political persecution.

«I published everything with reference to other sources. Despite this, I was detained. I was not given food or water for six hours. As soon as Sadyr Japarov gave the order to shut the false patriots up, I was detained,» Yrys Zhekshenaliev said.

Leaving the deliberation room, the judge remanded the activist in custody for a period of two months.

A scandal occurred in court. Relatives of the detainee and two lawyers were not allowed to attend the hearing.

Yrys Zhekshenaliev, the administrator of Polit Uznik Facebook page, was taken to the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on August 14, and then detained.

Later, the ex-chairman of the State Committee for National Security was summoned for interrogation.

The head of state Sadyr Japarov commented on the situation around Zhetim-Too field. He urged activists and politicians who oppose the development of this field to stop deceiving people.
