130-meter-long shirdak made in Naryn

Craftswomen from Naryn made a 130- meter-long shirdak. Naryn Mediaborboru TV channel reported.

Local residents from Altyn Kol-Naryn Public Association of Craftswomen, having completed the laborious work, presented the longest national carpet at Son-Kol jailoo.

The folk art item was presented as part of the festival «En uzun shyrdak — Narynda». The purpose of the event is to get into the Guinness Book of Records.

Shirdak is a Kyrgyz felt carpet, one of the oldest and most complex in its technique of making felt products. With the influence of globalization, this type of craft was in danger of extinction, people practically stopped using it. But it gained renewed momentum and is back in fashion, because it is not only very beautiful, durable, but also environmentally friendly.
