Osh resident transfers over 2 million rubles to militants in Syria

Resident of Osh, who financed the activities of a terrorist group Jamaat al-Tawhid wal-Jihad in Syria, was detained. Press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reported.

«From March 2020 to May 2022, while staying in Kyrgyzstan, the suspect transferred more than 2 million rubles through bank transfer systems, including through banks of foreign countries, to finance the extremist and terrorist activities of the group. With the assistance of the Main Department for Countering Extremism of the Russian Interior Ministry, the details of the bank cards of the man and other citizens were found out, with the help of which money was transferred to militants staying in the war zones in Syria,» the statement says.

Russian law enforcement agencies found and prosecuted the detainee’s accomplices — citizens of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

«Other Kyrgyz citizens — residents of Osh, Jalal-Abad, Batken, and Talas regions — who contributed to the collection of money have also been identified,» the Interior Ministry reported.

Electronic data storage devices, containing information on financial transfers and extremist materials, were seized from the house of the detainee. He was taken into custody. The investigation continues.
