The President of Kyrgyzstan signed the law on Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Kyrgyz Republic (to the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Code of the Kyrgyz Republic on Offenses).
The document was adopted by the Parliament on May 18, 2022.
It is aimed at stepping up the fight against smuggling — illegal import and export of goods and vehicles outside checkpoints and other established places for the movement of goods, as well as establishing effective, proportionate and dissuasive sanctions for commission of the mentioned above illegal acts.
The Criminal Code now includes a rule that vehicles used to transport contraband in the aforementioned ways are subject to confiscation.
