Ex-MP's brother detained for bribery acquitted

The Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan acquitted Maniyaz Keldibaev, an employee of the Customs Service, who was detained for extortion of money. Lawyer Nazgul Suyunbaeva told 24.kg news agency.

According to her, the Osh City Court issued an acquittal verdict.

«The Osh Regional Court found Maniyaz Keldibaev guilty of fraud. He was sentenced to a fine of 220,000 soms. The prosecutor’s office appealed this decision to the Supreme Court. The supervisory body was not satisfied with the reclassification of charges, the prosecutors asked to find Keldibaev guilty of extortion of money. The defense also filed a cassation appeal, we asked to acquit my client. The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Osh City Court. Thus, Maniyaz Keldibaev was acquitted for lack of corpus delicti. He has been recognized as having the right to rehabilitation,» said Nazgul Suyunbaeva.

Maniyaz Keldibaev is the brother of Sagyndyk Keldibaev, a former deputy of the 6th convocation of Parliament.

The press service of the Supreme Court confirmed information about the acquittal verdict to 24.kg news agency.

It is worth recalling that Maniyaz Keldibaev was an employee of the South-West Customs. He was detained in December 2020 for money extortion. According to the investigation, the customs officer extorted money from a private businessman for permission to transit vehicles with cargo through the territory of Kyrgyzstan. He was caught red-handed while taking $1,000.
