Deputies propose to fine for showing disrespect to teachers

The rights of teachers in Kyrgyzstan are not protected. Deputy Mirlan Samyikozho said at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on social policy.

He proposes to hold students and their parents accountable for disrespectful attitude towards the teachers. According to the deputy, the bill was developed in order to protect the rights of teachers.

«Some parents, sending their children to school, say that they will gouge out the eyes of anyone who offends their child. Parents are the strongest, most powerful for a child. Therefore, such problems arise, and teachers are subjected to humiliation and even assault. Pupils have enough rights, and they are always protected, teachers have less rights,» Mirlan Samyikozho said.

According to the draft law, a fine from 2,000 to 3,000 soms is imposed for showing disrespect to a teacher, depending on the age of the student. In case of a repeated offense within a year, the fine will increase to 5,000, or it is proposed to apply arrest from three to five days.
