Businessmen of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan sign contracts for $1.5 million

Contracts worth more than $1.5 million were signed during the second meeting of the Kyrgyz-Kazakh Business Council. Press service of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry reported.

The event was held with the participation of the co-chairman of the Business Council from the Kyrgyz side, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic Marat Sharshekeev, co-chairman of the Business Council from the Kazakh side, Chairman of the Board of the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan, as well as representatives of large companies from both countries.

The parties discussed a number of major investment projects in the field of tourism and light industry, construction of an industrial trade and logistics complex on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border, construction and commissioning of the first 50 MW solar power plant in Kyrgyzstan, new business formats based on ESG approaches.

The participants noted that to date the trade turnover between the states is almost $1 billion. However, the figure must be increased to $2 billion.

Light industry was named as one of the priority areas of trade and economic cooperation, since the industry has a social significance, providing high employment. The governments of the two countries are implementing a number of support measures: free economic zones, lending and public investment.

As for the tourism industry, it is recognized as one of the highly profitable segments of international trade in services. Revenues from it rank third in the world after revenues from the export of oil, petroleum products and cars. According to the participants, the growth of tourism should occur due to the emergence of new attractions, since the traditional areas of the world tourism market have reached the limit of recreational capacity. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have a unique opportunity to occupy their niche in the global tourism market, especially in ecotourism.

The following contracts were signed after the meeting:

  • Kelum-KazPharm LLP (RK) and BMG Pharm LLC (delivery of medical products for $350,000);
