Mayors of Bishkek and Osh will be appointed by the President. The requirements for a candidate for the position of mayor have been changed. The City Hall of the capital submitted a draft law for public discussion.
The position of mayor of Bishkek and Osh can be held by officials with higher education, work experience in state or municipal positions for a total of at least 10 years, seven years of which in leadership positions, as well as those with at least 10 years of leadership experience in other areas of activity. At the same time, they must speak the state language at an «above average» level.
The term of office of the mayors of both capitals is five years. It is not related to the term of office of the City Councils or change of the president.
