St. George Ribbon campaign to be held in Kyrgyzstan

The St. George Ribbon campaign will be held in more than thirty countries this year. The head of the Victory Volunteers, Deputy Head of the State Duma Committee on the Development of Civil Society, Issues of Public and Religious Associations Olga Zanko told at a press conference in Moscow.

According to her, volunteers receive threats, their homes are searched, even children are harassed in many countries.

«The St. George Ribbon campaign will take place anyway. It will take place in person in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, DNR, LNR, Kyrgyzstan, India, Peru, Jordan, Serbia, and Tunisia, in online format — in more than 30 countries,» Olga Zanko told.

On the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory in 2015, Kyrgyzstan decided to abandon the St. George’s ribbons. They were proposed to be replaced with red and yellow ribbons, the colors of country’s national flag.

Disputes around the St. George’s Ribbon begin every year on the eve of May 9. Many activists propose to give it up. Their opponents do not agree.
