Residents of Chui region voluntarily hand over weapons to police

The police checked more than 4,000 owners of firearms in Chui region. Press service of the Central Internal Affairs Department of the region reported.

At least 155 people were fined.

«Some 3,552 hunters were checked, 1,000 of them — owners of rifled weapons, 2,551 — smooth-bore. 533 owners of gas and traumatic weapons and 19 owners of award weapons as well as one hunting store, 3 private agencies and 2 objects of permit system have been checked,» the statement says.

At least 155 protocols on the facts of administrative violations totaling more than 110,000 soms were drawn up. 25 firearms were confiscated. The police registered 36 cases of voluntary surrender of firearms including 24 smooth-bore, 6 gas and traumatic and 3 rifled weapons.

Residents voluntarily surrendered more than 40 rounds of ammunition, a grenade and a mine to the police.

The Central Department of Internal Affairs of Chui region reminds that the illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of weapons, their main parts, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices as well as manufacture or repair of firearms and their component parts are criminally punishable. A person who voluntarily surrenders illegally stored weapons is exempt from criminal liability.
