Kyrgyzstan to step up measures for detection of early childhood disability

Kyrgyzstan will step up measures for detection of early childhood disability. The Minister of Labor, Social Security and Migration of Kyrgyzstan Kudaibergen Bazarbaev said at the regular meeting of the Council for Persons with Disabilities’ Affairs. Press service of the ministry reports.

The event was chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baisalov. The participants discussed the issues of early detection of childhood disability, as well as measures taken by the state to protect the rights of persons with disabilities to physical education and sports.

The Ministry of Labor reminded that in January, an interdepartmental working group was created, which includes representatives of the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Health. The group’s work will be aimed at stepping up measures by government agencies and nonprofit organizations for detection and intervention to minimize childhood disability.

«Our experience in working with small children with developmental disabilities shows that the most effective are not only the efforts of specialists in habilitation and rehabilitation of children, but also the active participation in this process of parents (families) raising small children. To date, we have introduced the service of «personal assistant» for children who need constant care and supervision, which provides for an appropriate payment,» Kudaibergen Bazarbaev said.

At present, 8,281 children receive services of a personal assistant in the republic.

Issues of stepping up measures to create conditions for training of athletes for the Paralympic Games, as well as access to physical education for people with disabilities were also discussed at the meeting of the Council.
