According to the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, medical workers are in the lowest wage area in terms of wages. Independent expert Bermet Baryktabasova said at the press conference at 24.kg news agency.
«Medical workers get 33 soms for a consultation. This is how the rates are calculated. This is cheaper than giving an enema, a loaf of bread costs that much. The level of wages is at the level of servile labor. Medical services have not cost as much as in the price list for a long time,» she said.
Bermet Baryktabasova added that any increase in salaries of health workers remains at the level of focus. «They take away some extra pay from the doctors and turn it into the basic salary. But it still remains pitifully small,» she said.
The country’s average monthly salary today is about 17,000 soms, according to the National Statistical Committee, but nurses’ salaries are about 10,000 soms. About 70,000 health care workers literally live in poverty.

Medicine has a hard time today, she added. «Everywhere we see the threat of destruction of principles, destruction of the profession, violation of the ethics of the profession. When the authorized body, which is supposed to ensure working conditions for medical workers, on the contrary, creates a situation of chaos, hopelessness and completely incomprehensible actions,» she noted.
