Situation in Ukraine: Russia moves to declare Meta extremist organization

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia filed an application to recognize Meta Platforms Inc. an extremist organization. Interfax reported with reference to the supervisory authority.

According to the media outlet, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent an application to the court for the recognition of Meta Platforms Inc. an extremist organization and prohibition of its activities on the territory of Russia.

In addition, according to the supervisory authority, in connection with the presence of signs of crimes, materials were sent to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation to resolve the issue of criminal prosecution.

Meta Platforms Inc.

An American multinational holding company that owns a technology conglomerate and is located in Menlo Park, California. It is the parent organization of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus.

After the start of events in Ukraine on February 25, Roskomnadzor restricted access to Facebook in Russia.
