Lavrov: Russia ready for negotiations, but will continue special operation

The special operation in Ukraine will continue even during the negotiations. The Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Russian and foreign media.

He noted that negotiations between representatives of Russia and Ukraine will take place today, March 3. In his opinion, it is too early to give an assessment to them now. But Sergei Lavrov expressed confidence that a solution to the situation in Ukraine would be found. He added that Russia is ready for negotiations. «The conditions that are minimal for us are well known,» he said.

At the same time, he expressed the opinion that the Ukrainian delegation receives signals from Washington at the talks. «The Ukrainian team again found some reasons to postpone these negotiations,» he added.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry added that the special operation in Ukraine was a forced decision, «because the West did not hear us.»

Sergei Lavrov added that Russia would continue the operation even if the negotiations took place. «We cannot allow the infrastructure that threatens the security of the Russian Federation to be preserved in Ukraine, and demilitarization will be carried out to the end, I mean destruction of the infrastructure and weapons that threaten us,» he said.

Today is the eighth day of fighting in Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, the Russian President Vladimir Putin announced start of a special military operation. It was regarded in Ukraine and in the West as a full-scale invasion.

Second round of Russian-Ukrainian talks is expected today.
