Conflict in Ukraine: Facebook bans Russian state media from running ads

Nathaniel Gleicher, Head of Cybersecurity Policy at Facebook, said that the social network, in connection with the situation in Ukraine, banned Russian state-owned media from running ads or monetizing on its platform. RIA Novosti reports.

According to Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook is «closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine.»

«We are now prohibiting Russian state media from running ads or monetizing on our platform anywhere in the world,» he posted on Twitter.

Nathaniel Gleicher added that the social network continues to tag Russian state media.

On the night of February 24, Vladimir Putin officially announced start of a military special operation in Donbas. An extraordinary meeting of Russia’s Security Council was held in Moscow on February 21 to discuss the issue of recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree.
