MFA: Kyrgyzstan stands for peaceful resolution of conflict in Ukraine

The topic of a military special operation conducted by Russia in Ukraine was touched upon during the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to the Kyrgyz Republic Charles Garrett. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

Ruslan Kazakbaev informed Charles Garrett about the statement of the President Sadyr Japarov on the situation in Ukraine, which notes the need to resolve emerging situations peacefully, diplomatically.

«In this regard, it was noted that given the current events, we support the rapid de-escalation, resumption of search for peaceful settlement of the conflict and the need to resolve the conflict situation exclusively by political and diplomatic means at the negotiating table,» Ruslan Kazakbaev said.

In addition, during the meeting, the parties discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the UK. In particular, Ruslan Kazakbaev asked to expedite sending of the British side’s responses to the draft bilateral agreements previously submitted to it for consideration, including the roadmap for cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the UK for 2022-2025.

Earlier it was reported that martial law was declared in Ukraine.

On the night of February 24 Vladimir Putin officially announced start of a military special operation in Donbas.

An extraordinary meeting of Russia’s Security Council was held in Moscow on February 21 to discuss the issue of recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree.

Earlier, the US leader Joe Biden signed a decree banning trade and investment with the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. The document was published on the White House website.

On February 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered an address and said that Kiev was seeking peace and would continue diplomatic work in this direction following Russia’s decision to recognize the Donbas republics.

The President of Kyrgyzstan believes that this may have been a forced measure. Sadyr Japarov spoke out about the conflict in Ukraine on social media.
