Ex-Minister of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Moldomusa Kongantiev passes away

Former Minister of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Moldomusa Kongantiev died in Osh city on February 12. He was 63 years old. Friends of his family told 24.kg news agency.

According to preliminary data, Moldomusa Kongantiev’s death was caused by a cardiac arrest. His body will be delivered to Bishkek.

Moldomusa Kongantiev was born on March 31, 1958 in Mailuu-Suu.

He graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Kyrgyz State University with a degree in jurisprudence in 1989, PhD in Law.

He began his service at the internal affairs bodies in 1979. He took various positions, starting from an ordinary policeman for the protection of the state bank branch at the Department of Internal Affairs of the Mailuu-Suu Town Executive Committee.

In January 2008, he was appointed the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.

On April 6, 2010, he left for Talas, where opposition rallies were held. On the night of April 6-7, he was captured by the opposition and severely beaten.

The ex-head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was accused of negligence during the March 2005 events and abuse of power during the April 2010 events. The Pervomaisky District Court acquitted Moldomusa Kongantiev. In December 2019, the court fully acquitted the Lieutenant General.
