Speaker of the Parliament Talant Mamytov and the UN Resident Coordinator in the Kyrgyz Republic Ozonnia Ojielo discussed gender issues. Press service of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan reported.
As the speaker noted, Kyrgyzstan recognizes the UN as an authoritative multidisciplinary international organization, a decision-making center on global issues and a key center for maintaining peace and security, development of friendly relations between peoples, as well as addressing the challenges of globalization and overcoming dangerous situations.
«From the very beginning, the Kyrgyz Republic has been actively involved in the preparation of the Sustainable Development Goals until 2030, implementing national priorities that meet the specifics of the country. The current leadership of the republic also pays special attention to this area,» he said.
The parties also discussed the gender issue. According to Talant Mamytov, the country’s electoral legislation provides for a 30 percent quota for women on party lists. At least 18 women were elected to the Parliament of the seventh convocation.
«In total, 156 women work in the Parliament, 89 of whom are experts. Eleven out of 16 departments are headed by women,» he said.
Ozonnia Ojielo noted that the UN gives an objective assessment of each of the ongoing reforms in Kyrgyzstan, comprehensively supports these processes and conducts an important dialogue on them. He stressed that no less than 30 percent gender quota for women should also be observed in local councils and ministries.
According to the UN Resident Coordinator, one of the most important tasks of the organization is to support the rights of children and programs to prevent domestic violence.
