Kyrgyzstan toughens punishment for drunk driving

The patrol police report that under the new Code of Violations the punishment for drunk driving has been toughened in Kyrgyzstan.

Driving in a state of intoxication with alcohol, narcotic drugs, psychotropic and other intoxicating substances is punishable by a fine of 175 calculated rates (17,500 soms) or community service from 30 to 40 hours.

Refusal of drivers to pass an examination is also punishable by a fine of 17,500 soms. If owner of a vehicle lets drunk person drive it, he or she will be fined 15,000 soms.

If, through negligence, a drunk driver commits a traffic accident, he or she will be fined 20,000 soms or arrested for three days.
