Driver's license to be revoked for drunk driving in Kyrgyzstan from March 8

Driver’s license will be revoked for drunk driving in Kyrgyzstan from March 8. Press service of the Central Road Safety Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reported.

«Before, according to Article 193 of the Code of Offences, the driver was punished with a fine of 17,500 soms or community service. From March 8, a drunk driver will be deprived of the right to drive vehicles for a year. Earlier, a drunk driver, who did not have a driver’s license was fined 15,000 soms, and from March 8, such a violation is punished by arrest for three days. If the driver refuses to undergo a drug test, he or she faces arrest for three days, an offender without a driver’s license — arrest for five days,» the statement says.

According to the previous norms, if a drunk driver had a road accident that caused harm to the health of other citizens through negligence, but there was no corpus delicti in his or her actions, they were punished with a fine of 20,000 soms. Now such a driver faces arrest for seven days, and a driver who has a driver’s license is deprived of the right to drive for a year.

The department stressed that if the driver is repeatedly detained for drunk driving or gets in a road accident while intoxicated, the car will be temporarily seized. He or she also faces suspension of driver’s license for three years.
