Kyrgyz TV channels to be fined for failure to comply with state language law

Monitoring of the broadcasts of 33 television channels in Kyrgyzstan was conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism. Deputy head of the ministry Nurzhigit Kadyrbekov told today at a press conference.

According to him, the Department of Information and Mass Communications under the Ministry of Culture conducted a quantitative analysis of broadcasting of TV channels for compliance with the norms of the Law on Television and Radio Broadcasting.

According to the deputy minister, 55 television and radio broadcasting organizations currently broadcast digitally in Kyrgyzstan. Analysis for obtaining information was carried out during one air day from 7.00 to 00.00.

Based on the results of the monitoring, 57 compliance orders were issued. Data on at least 33 television channels out of the entire list of broadcasting organizations broadcasting in digital terrestrial format have been processed that is in total 561 hours, or 33,660 minutes of airtime.

«Work is underway to impose fines for failure to comply with the norms of the law, especially on the state language and domestic content. All this should make up 50 percent of the total broadcasting,» said Salkyn Sarnogoeva, Director of the Information and Mass Communications Department.

Based on the monitoring results, requests were sent for entitling documents authorizing the broadcasting of film production on the air of television channels in the country.
