Kyrgyzstani arrested in absentia within case on St. Petersburg terrorist attack

Another defendant in the criminal case on the terrorist attack in St. Petersburg metro was arrested in absentia — a citizen of Kyrgyzstan Islombek Turgunov. Interfax reports.

The arrest was sanctioned by the Basmanny District Court of Moscow the day before. The term of arrest is two months from the moment of detention or transfer to Russia. Islombek Turgunov was charged under the article «Participation in the terrorist community» of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and was put on internationally wanted list.

On April 3, 2017, an explosion of a homemade bomb in a train car between Sennaya Ploshchad and Technological Institute stations of St. Petersburg metro killed 16 people, including the alleged terrorist, over 67 were injured.

At least 11 people are defendants in the criminal case. Depending on the role of each, they are charged with participation in a terrorist community, attempt to commit a terrorist attack, illegal manufacture, modification or repair of explosive devices, committing a terrorist attack by an organized group through prior conspiracy, storage and transportation of explosives and an explosive device.

«According to the investigation, the accused of involvement in the terrorist attack were members of the international terrorist community, which was a part of Katiba Tauhid Val-Jihad organization, which is banned in Russia,» the statement says.
