Protocol on settlement of situation on Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border signed

A protocol on settlement of situation on Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan state border in Batken region was signed. Information Support Department of the Cabinet reported.

The document was signed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Zhenish Razakov and the Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim.

According to the protocol, an agreement on continuation of construction work on Kok-Tash — Ak-Sai -Tamdyk road was reached.

«Transport communication in the border areas will be fully restored as before. The Vice Prime Minister Zhenish Razakov stressed that the signing of the protocol took into account the mutual interests of the two countries. In addition, he and the heads of relevant state bodies and local authorities visited the construction site of Kok-Tash — Ak-Sai — Tamdyk road,» the message says.

In addition, the government of the Kyrgyz Republic stressed that the work of joint investigation teams of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to study the consequences of the situation on Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border would be continued.

The conflict occurred in Batken region on Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border over construction of Ak-Sai — Tamdyk road on March 13-14. Residents of border villages threw stones at each other. Border guards of both countries used weapons to disperse people. As of today, the situation is stable, but Osh — Isfana road is still blocked in the area of ​​the Tajik enclave Vorukh.
