Deputy Minister of Transport of Kyrgyzstan detained with $50,000 bribe

Employees of the Corruption Control Service of the State Committee for National Security caught the Deputy Minister of Transport and Roads red-handed when receiving a bribe of $50,000 on December 5. Press center of the state committee reported.

The money was paid for making a positive decision on a tender for road construction and rehabilitation work on the connecting road project, CAREC corridors 1 and 3, Epkin-Dyikan, Bashkuuganda section (from the 89.5th to 159.2nd kilometer). The detainee headed the tender commission and patronized one of the foreign companies.

«The agreed amount of funds for promotion of the interests of a foreign company was estimated at $520,000. Some of them, $ 120,000, the deputy minister previously received from representatives of the foreign company with the participation of intermediaries who are his relatives. The rest of the money was planned to be received in the coming weeks,» the message says.

The detainee was placed in the temporary detention facility of the SCNS. The investigation is underway.

According to information received by 24.kg news agency, the detained deputy minister of transport and roads is Azimkan Zhusubaliev. He was appointed to office in February 2017.
