Former Parliament Speaker Akhmatbek Keldibekov won another one million soms payout against the Kyrgyz-language media outlet Asia News. Civil activist Adil Turdukulov told 24.kg news agency.
According to him, the former speaker filed a lawsuit in Oktyabrsky District Court for the protection of honor and dignity against journalist Aslan Saparbaev and the media. He demanded a compensation, and a refutation to the articles where, according to him, inadequate information was provided.
«But for some reason the court office divided the claim between two judges, and it turned out that Akhmatbek Keldibekov received as a result two million soms,» said Adil Turdukulov.
He added that the defendants are preparing an appeal to the Bishkek City Court. «The decision of the court, or rather two, damages the image of Akhmatbek Keldibekov. He is a rich man, why does he need two million soms? He could be satisfied with a refutation. The defendants want the plaintiff to withdraw material claims at the stage of appeal to a higher authority,» explained Adil Turdukulov.
