Uzbekistan introduces zero duty on import of electric vehicles

New rates of import customs duty on two types of cars imported to Uzbekistan will begin to operate from January 1, 2019. The Uzbek media reported.

According to the annex to the presidential decree «On measures to further streamline foreign economic activity and improve the system of customs and tariff regulation of the Republic of Uzbekistan,» the rate for the import of electric cars will be zero. The new rate applies to vehicles that have an electric motor (HS code 870380) only.

In addition, a zero rate of import customs duty on cars produced not more than two years ago and costing $ 40,000 and more will be introduced from the beginning of 2019. The excise tax on these cars will amount to 20 percent of their customs cost.

Recall, some time ago, Kyrgyzstan started to discuss the possibility of exemption of the import of electric vehicles from customs duties. During the visit of President Sooronbai Jeenbekov to China, it became known that Kyrgyzstan was looking for investors for the construction of a plant to assemble vehicles with an electric engine in the republic.
