The parliamentary elections in 2020 should be held openly, honestly and fairly. The President Sooronbai Jeenbekov stated today at a session of the Parliament.
The head of state recalled that he stood for development of parliamentary democracy in Kyrgyzstan. He considers it necessary to eradicate the potential opportunity for authoritarianism in the country.
«I am convinced that parliamentary democracy corresponds to the nature of development of our society. It is capable of becoming the basis for sustainable development of the state and a lasting strengthening of stability in society. Our goal in the future is the consistent implementation of this important political reform,» the president said.
According to Sooronbai Jeenbekov, the development of parliamentary democracy depends on the Parliament, in particular, on ensuring fair elections in 2020.
«All electoral legislation amendments, all relevant legislation norms should be adopted and made one year before the election date. The rules of the game must be clearly defined and not subject to changes during the electoral process. The same conditions must be created for all parties participating in the elections, we need to ensure real political competition,» said Sooronbai Jeenbekov, adding that parties should not make changes to their candidates’ lists after the elections.
