The International Football Federation has chosen the countries to host 2026 World Cup. FIFA reported.
The day before, Moscow, where the 21st World Cup starts on June 14, hosted the FIFA Congress. Question about the venue for the 23rd World Cup was on the agenda among other things. Morocco and a joint project of Canada, Mexico and the United States participated in the voting for the right to host the World Cup. The North American bid won with a great lead.
Previously, the world championships have always been held in one country (except for 2002 Cup, which was hosted by Korea and Japan). The World Cup has never been held in three countries simultaneously. At the same time, Mexico alone hosted the championships in 1970 and 1986, and the USA — 1994 World Cup. The tournament was not held in Canada before. This championship will be the first in history, where 48 teams will participate (instead of current 32).
FIFA World Cup 2018 will take place from June 14 to July 15 in Russia. Qatar will host 2022 World Cup.
