The police opened a criminal case in connection with the riots in Toguz-Toro district, where a Chinese company’s property was set on fire. Press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
The case was opened under articles «Hooliganism», «Deliberate destruction or damage of someone’s property through arson», «Mass riots» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
«Currently, police officers fully control the situation, providing public order, together with local authorities they conduct explanatory work. All the necessary operational and investigative measures are taken on the opened criminal case,» the Interior Ministry said.
Local residents told 24.kg news agency that despite the stable situation, additional police forces from Bishkek were engaged. «At the moment, everything is quiet, there are no people on the streets,» they told.
Yesterday, residents of Toguz-Toro district of Jalal-Abad region held a rally with a demand to stop the construction of a plant, owned by the Chinese company GL Makmal Developing. The protesters burned down the laboratory, warehouses and the office building of the enterprise. Three policemen were injured.
